Would this fake bill trick you? – watch out for cleaver spam!

Email spam cons are getting more and more sophisticated each day, and I felt the need to share this one that popped into my inbox today.

I know people who have been caught out and it is easy to do if you don’t know what to look out for.

The sender’s address was listed as BT Business and the subject titled Latest BT Bill.

The graphics in the email look legitimate, the branding is as one would expect for a bill or invoice (for this type of styling)

It even contains Real links to BT’s website…here is the catch.

The ‘See your bill here’ link takes you off to some 3rd party spam company website, where it’s possible they could infect your machine or even worse obtain your payment details!

3 tips when seeing suspect emails

  • 2nd guess yourselves on if you have an account with the company emailing you
  • Hover over the links and make sure they go to the corresponding company’s websites.
  • If you still are unsure go to the company’s website direct and speak to an advisor
