Keeping up with e-commerce

2016 continues to be an innovators market and 2017 promises to be also, meaning that if companies are not adapting and evolving to meet the needs of customers, there is a good chance they will be left behind. With the rise in e-commerce over recent years, the same can now be said for online shopping. No more is a simple store with ‘nice’ products enough to rope in a potential customer, online shops have to continue to take steps to keep up with leaders such as Amazon, ebuyer.com and the newer online superstores. There are a couple of trends to keep up with, to ensure you don’t get left behind. e-commerce-trolley

Responsive websites: Having a responsive e-commerce website has become even more important over recent years with the developments to mobile technology. In 2015 over 40% of global e-commerce transactions were carried out on smart phones and this is expected to grow to 70% by 2017, showing how important it is to have a site that works seamlessly over mobile, tablet and desktop, ensuring that your business receives transactions across all platforms.

Payment methods that work for both you and the customer: Traditional payment methods like debit and credit are still relevant, but having payment options that give customers more options should also be considered. That might mean using PayPal to accept payments, it’s important to find out what your client base is most likely to use.

Faster Shopping: Not only is it important to have a beautiful site to drive customers to but it is also important to have a quick purchasing process with rich content involved throughout to drive customers through the purchasing process too. In this fast moving age more things are impulse purchases and a fast purchasing process with rich content product descriptions are important to help sway that ā€˜on-the-fence’ buyer.

Function28 create beautiful, responsive e-commerce websites, allowing you to keep up with the aforementioned trends.

ā€˜Like getting in shape, ranking well in search engines takes time.’

I recently read an article on why SEO is just like fitness. As SEO medics, we can relate to professional fitness trainers, getting that difficult moment when a client asks for guaranteed, immediate results, only to find out there are absolutely none.

  • In both search engine optimisation and fitness training, there are no guaranteed results. There’s only so much a consultant or trainer can do in terms of planning and execution.
  • In both areas, it’s about stamina and following and long term plan. One off optimisation initiatives are as effective as one intense gym session – they’re not.
  • SEO experts and professional athletes will agree that there are no shortcuts that work over an extensive length of time. Results demand continuous hard work.
  • Neither SEO nor sports is a level playing field competition. Similarly to different body types having different advantages in sport, different websites have different advantages or disadvantages when it comes to being number one in search engines.
  • Optimising websites and training at a competitive level can be a frustrating experience, because the world has not stopped dead in its tracks, and there’s a chance that someone else (or a competing website) will still do better, despite your best efforts.
  • With both fitness programs and SEO, measuring progress is everything. Without metrics and trends to follow, success cannot be sustained.

Lastly, there’s one more quality both SEO and fitness have in common: the more it becomes a habit and part of a regular routine, the better the chance that the success achieved will exceed all initial expectations.

Why do you DESERVE to be #1 on local search results?

I recently came across an article talking about how to talk to local companies about SEO. Often in the industry weĀ  are presented with company owners asking questions like ā€œWhat kind of results will I get?ā€ or ā€œHow long will it take?ā€ or ā€œHow much more traffic will we get?ā€ And since there’s no way to definitively answer to those questions, potential clients sometimes give you “that lookā€ when weĀ tell them,Ā ā€œIt depends.ā€ And although this may sound like a cop out type of answer its actually the most honest answer you can give.

There are so many factors to take in when working on SEO that if someone guarantees you the number #1 position on all search terms i would be very suspect.

Function28 try to keep it simple when discussing SEO and in black and white terms it comes down to your websites content.

The majority of business we deal with want a high return on localised search terms within the area they work. And by asking this simple question Why do you DESERVE to be #1 on local search results? it really helps to get things started.

We are not being rude when asking this question but simply trying to find out what makes you stand out. If you have a clear answer to this question you will find the writing clear unique content which is locally relevant comes more naturally, and stops you filling your page with ‘fluff’ content.

So next time you are struggling to write content just ask yourself or employees the simple questionĀ  .
