Cullompton Boxing Club – During & Post Lockdown

Cullompton Boxing Club is back up and running in their HQ situated in Willand after lockdown closed all gyms which meant the club could not continue and was closed for 4 months.

During this period of downtime, they took this opportunity to rebrand the club as they are now a recognised Amateur boxing club with them sporting a new club logo and new website address of www.cullomptonabc.co.uk.

This also meant the boxing club had time to put guidelines in place for the awaited return of sessions, including sanitiser stations and a sanitising fog machine which Function28 were happy to fund.

A new booking system was also implemented onto their website, where people now have to pre-book if they would like to attend a session, ensuring the track and trace protocols can be adhered to.

During June the club were able to conduct small sessions outside in the open with social distancing in place, and get people back loving the fitness side of boxing again.

Post lockdown and back in the swing of classes, Cullompton ABC now run almost 20 classes throughout the week, including the youngsters and ladies classes which are going from strength to strength and almost at full capacity.  Function28 are super happy to continue supporting the boxing club and look forward to being involved with more promotional work once the club can start their charity boxing shows again.

The Culm Valley Inn: Showcase

One of Function28’s latest projects was working with local restaurant/bed and breaksfast, The Culm Valley Inn.

For us this was a very fun project to be part of, all the way from the design and initial meetings to the development and implenting stage.

We took on the responibilities of creating them a new website and managing their social media channels.

When designing the new website we wanted to make sure that it came across modern, easy to use and most of all family orientated.

When we first arrived at the location, the stunning views all around include the Culm river literally 50 yards from the pub and he massive space outside for drinks or food in the sunshine.

Inside the pub, the combination of the atmosphere, staff and food make for a great experience, one everyone needs to try!

To show the location and pub in all it’s glory we knew the best thing to start was taking photos to use for the new website and social media. The main focus of the photoshoot was the food, The Culm Valley’s head chef Vinnie prepared lots of dishes of high-quality ingredients and the looks to match, photos can be seen below. All photos were taken and edited by ourselves at Function28.

During the webiste build we had close contact with Culm Valley Inn and kept them in th loop of the build and general feel of the website. One of thier main requests was to be able to edit the webiste and maintian the content keeping it up to date with the latest information.

After completing the website build and getting the social media up and running. Our next step was to get the Culm Valley’s rooms advertised somewhere where people could book effortlessly and was easy to manage around the busy pub.

We chose to use booking.com and list all the rooms they have avaialble on there. The Culm Valley Inn have many rooms available and more in the pipeline to be listed including a new cottage which will contain a private hotub! We decided that all the rooms should be named rather than nyumebred to help with the homely feel to the Inn, names included The Beacon Room & Church View, which link to the surrounding are of the pub.

Since the website, social media and booking.com went live, the positive response The Culm Valley Inn has had is amazing with tables being reserved daily through facebook and rooms also being booked nearly every day through the booking.com website.

The pictures that we captured showcase The Culm Valley Inn perfectly and without images at our disposal the whole build would of been more difficult and would of been produced without much connection to what the Inn is actaully like.

If your business is looking to gain momnetum online through a new website and having social media channels that are regualry updated with amazing photos and other content. Please get intouch and we will be happy to help.

Lockdown Social Media Challenges…

COVID-19 has got the world to come together on…. Social Media

We are going to take a look at what everyone has been keeping busy doing during this time of uncertainty.

Instagram trends come and go – remember the “Mannequin Challenge” of 2016 and the “Ice Bucket Challenge” of 2014?

With people social distancing and staying at home during the coronavirus crisis, many have taken to Instagram to pass the time and enjoy a light, fun distraction.

One recent trend is called the “Until Tomorrow Challenge” and it’s incredibly simple to join in with. All you need to do is post a silly or slightly embarrassing photo of yourself on Instagram with the caption “until tomorrow”.

Once it’s posted, you need to resist the urge to delete it for a full 24 hours.

As of Wednesday evening, the hashtag #untiltomorrow has over 352,000 posts with people sharing bad selfies and photos of themselves as children.

Since people are bored at home, quite a few Instagram challenges have been popping up. We are going to look at a couple more:

#see10do10

The challenge #see10do10 is a pushup challenge to encourage at-home workouts.

It goes as it sounds: Record a video doing 10 pushups, and then tag as many friends as you’d like to see do the same.

Jennifer Hudson gave the pushups a try, but didn’t quite pull it off.

Luckily, she had someone on hand to finish the challenge for her. Her assistant managed to complete 10 pushups in a second video.

#StayAtHomeChallenge / #ToiletRollChallenge

This Instagram trend features people testing how many keepy-uppies they can do with a roll of toilet paper.

Whoever takes part then posts a video of their efforts on their page, ideally tagging some friends encouraged to try it out.

The trend started with people completing just 10 keppy ups with the toilet roll. But then the challenge got competitive and challengers added various skills to the challenge trying to better their mates.

Numerous top footballers have joined in, including Barcelona and Argentina star Lionel Messi and even Jamie Carragher in his swanky mansion.

Instagram also started hashtag #stayhome, complete with a sticker. Stories tagged with the sticker are compiled and added to a custom story to encourage people to stay home.

Function28 Helping The Local Community…

Most digital companies focus on making the company as big as possible without showing worth and supporting local communities that we have right on our door step. At Function28 we pride ourselves in being very community based with many clients being within a 5 mile radius.

Recently we have ran giveaways that supported this and gave back to small businesses in Cullompton’s high street and other small businesses around he local area.

Within these giveaways, we offered our services with a Social Media package, which a local carpet and floor fitter won, with their business now performing very well on socials.

Also, we gave away a voucher valued at £50 for a local gift shop around Christmas which was won be a restaurant owner in the high street.

Lately we have been involved in another project with another this year that we are proud to be part of, more details below!

April 4th a date for your diary…

We are happy to announce that alongside Hyland Car Sales Ltd we are main event sponsors for the highly anticipated Cullompton Boxing Club Charity night, name ‘The New Awakenening’. After its huge success in December with over 15 fights on the night and over £4,000 raise for the Mind Chairty, with Adrian our Web Deisgner at Function28 raising a whopping £353 himself.

This April the club are looking to go even better with even more interest this time around, and plenty of new faces attending the boxing training ready for April’s big fight night.

The chairty that the new event will be supporting is Force Cancer Charity. Force has contributed more than £10 million to improving the quality of treatment and care available in Exeter for cancer patients and their loved ones.

They have funded more than £1 million worth of state-of-the-art equipment and anyone treated for cancer locally is likely to have benefitted from hardware purchased by Force.

Force also continue to fund an extremely productive programme of cancer research in Exeter. The results have been published internationally and widely presented at conferences both at home and abroad. To provide vital training for cancer researchers of the future, they have set up research studentships at the University of Exeter Medical School.

They consider it essential that all the services provided by our team of highly experienced and professional staff are available free of charge and they never lose sight of how important it is to provide the personal touch.

Force Cancer Charity pride thermselves on their considerate approach to fundraising because none of what they do would be possible without the huge amount of support they receive from the community.

Helping Hyland Car Sales Ltd…

Hyland Car Sales owner Corey Webber is helping rasie funds for Jace to have very intensive aftercare following his SDR surgery to help him walk independently.

For every car he sells another £50 is added to the donation pot up to the target of £1000. At Function28 we helped Hyland Car Sales by creating the artwork for the leaflet and we will be offering continued support throught the fundraising campaign helping out wherether we can, online and out in the local community.

More on Jace and his SDR Journery:

Jace is a very fun, loving and smart 6 year old. He was born with Cerebral Palsy, mainly affecting his legs.

At 18 months old we were told Jace would never walk, stand or talk. He defied the Drs and can certainly talk! However, he cannot yet stand or walk without the aid of a Kaye walker or Zimmer frame.

About a year and a half into our fundraising journey, the NHS announced they would start funding the SDR operation – fantastic news! However, there is a tight ‘criteria’ which the child needed to meet to be eligible for it.

Jace thankfully met this criteria and had his operation on December 27th 2019.

Although the NHS has paid for the operation we still need to raise as much as we can to pay for Jace’s aftercare. We need to pay for private physiotherapy as the physio the NHS provide is just not enough to make the operation worthwhile. There aren’t enough resources to give each child the best aftercare possible.

The operation helps rid the body of spasticity but it also weakens all core muscles. The operation is the ‘easy’ part, the aftercare is the most vital as this is what will enable Jace to be able to stand and walk unaided. Jace will probably need ligament lengthening as he grows to stretch his leg muscles, requiring further physiotherapy after this operation as well.

We are trying to raise £40,000 to be able to pay for Jace to have the very much needed intensive physiotherapy at least 3 times a week for as many years as possible!
